Dr. Keefe is a physician with over 25 years experience working in health care. A retired Captain in the United States Navy Medical Corps, he currently serves as the Regional Medical Director for the Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, Central Region, Vice Chief of Surgery and Chief of Head and Neck Surgery at Sharp Memorial Hospital, as well as Senior Associate Staff at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California. Among his notable past positions are Attending Surgeon and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, Assistant Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Medical School in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Keefe has also held numerous leadership positions during his tenure within the military sector, including Specialty Leader and Consultant to the Surgeon General for Navy Otolaryngology and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Naval Medical Center San Diego.

Dr. Keefe’s research and practice interests include reconstructive surgery, facial plastic surgery, cosmetic procedures, facial skin cancer surgery, laser surgery, salivary gland surgery, skull base surgery, sleep apnea, snoring, swallowing disorders, temporomandibular joint disorder, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, thyroid cancer, as well as voice evaluation and treatment. He has published numerous peer-review articles in prestigious medical journals including Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, the Journal of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, the Ear Nose and Throat Journal, Laryngoscope, the Journal of Emergency Medicine, and Otolaryngology Clinics of North America. Furthermore, Dr. Keefe has delivered many invited lectures and presentations at national meetings including the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American College of Physicians, as well as Grand Rounds for the University of California, San Diego and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Dr. Keefe is an active member of several prominent organizations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and the American Military Retired Association, among many others. In addition, Dr. Keefe has served as an Associate Editor for Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

Throughout his decorated career, Dr. Keefe has received numerous awards and honors including the Award for Physician Excellence of the Year from Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, Physician of the Month at Mira Mesa Clinic in San Diego, selection as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for Southern California, selection as a San Diego Super Doctor, selection as one of San Diego’s Top Physicians as well as California’s Top Physicians, selection as “Best of US” in otolaryngology, listed in the “Guide to America’s Top Physicians” for head and neck surgery as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, recognition by US News and World Report for excellence in the field of otolaryngology, Outstanding Staff Teacher from the Naval Medical Center San Diego, the Teaching Award for Excellence from the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Moreover, Dr. Keefe has been recognized for his years of dedicated military service with the Navy Legion of Merit Medal.

Dr. Keefe received his Medical Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He completed his internship at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, his residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the United States Naval Hospital San Diego, and his fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
